This two-hour clinic will teach you everything you need to know to pass the belay test, which is required to belay at the U-Rec Indoor Climbing Center. During this course you will learn how to tie a figure-8 follow-through knot and a double fisherman’s knot, and you’ll be taught the standard climbing commands and how to conduct a pre-climb safety check. At the conclusion of the course, the participant should be able to belay a climber up the climbing wall safely, and then lower the climber back to the ground.

All technical gear is provided.

Are you ready to learn the art of lead climbing? This three-hour clinic will take you through the basics of indoor lead climbing and will teach you to clip quickdraws to ascend the wall, belay a lead climber, and catch a lead fall. Before signing up for this course you should be able to top-rope 5.9 confidently, and you must have the skills to be able to pass a belay test at a local gym.

Minimum age is 18.*

We provide all necessary gear and equipment.

You can take a quick belay test to demonstrate your competence at belaying if you have previous experience. Stop by the wall and ask the attendant to take the test. Pass the test and you are good for the school year.
